2014 London Fashion Week
What has happened to the Berardi girl this season? She's all thigh-high lace-up boots and washed-out skin. She's always had a slightly kinky edge but this time she's really rocking out.

His new girl has pale skin, kohl black eyes (she's channelling Joan Jett) and likes her clothes a little restricted. "I liked the idea she has this rocky spirit. She's wearing a dark palette of black, sprinkled with interesting texture and a touch of glitter, some dirty looking industrial prints, with the odd splash of magenta and emerald green. That's not to say she's turned her back on her glamorous past. These clothes are sculptural in their tailoring - amazing jackets pulled tight as corsets round the torso, the fabric unleashed into glorious peplums to emphasise an exaggerated hourglass silhouette.
The fabrics, as always, give Berardi's clothes a luxurious edge. He prefers to commission his own fabrics, never wanting to have the same fabric as anyone else. So he used quilted jacquards, hand painted embroideries, and a mesh fabric which he said was "a weird new aertex with flocking on top" - the perfect mix of old-fashioned craft and new technology.

He was looking for ways to make black interesting - particularly for his ever proliferating online customer who finds shopping colour easier. "I do colour for online," he admitted, saying he still yearned to do an all-black collection and an all-white one. But he needs to think commercially as well as creatively, and that he does well.
But his customer is going to have some wild times in these clothes next season - especially if she buys the boots. "It was the naughtiness of them," said Berardi. "They are strict. I like the idea that no matter how tight you lace them, they will leave those marks on your legs - a bit Araki." Say no more, Antonio. We will leave the rest to your imagination.
