Today Tiger Woods and Rolex announced a new partnership that marks the return of Woods to the world of big-time endorsements. The deal follows TAG Heuer’s August decision to drop Woods as an ambassador, and it is the first major endorsement deal for Woods since the downfall that began in November, 2009.

In May, 2010, Omega reopened its museum in Biel, Switzerland following several months of renovations. Carl F. Bucherer’s new timepiece, introduced this week at the 2012 Baselworld watch fair, elegantly combines two of the most popular complications. Rolex’s Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master, a sailors’ watch introduced in 1992, undergoes a major facelift this year in both its design and technology. With 2012 being the Chinese Year of the Dragon, and with the momentous growth of Asia, and China in particular, as a luxury wristwatch market, it should be no surprise that many brands have created timepieces aimed squarely at Chinese consumers this year. Dragons and other Chinese motifs and styles were a recurring theme at both the SIHH and Baselworld watch fairs, and Blancpain may have come up with the most distinctive model yet for Chinese (and Chinaphile) collectors: the Traditional Chinese Calendar, new from the brand’s Villeret collection.

The unidirectional rotating bezel, also made of titanium, has another feature used for the first time on a Panerai watch: an applied disk of opaque black ceramic, on which the linear and dot-shaped titanium markers are fixed. The applied hour markers on the black dial are coated with Super-LumiNova.

The movement is Panerai’s P.9000, made in-house at the brand’s manufacture in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, which features automatic winding, two spring barrels providing a power reserve of three days, and an easy-to-use system for setting the time and date by moving the hour hand backward and forward in one-hour increments. The watch is finished off by a wide rubber strap with a trapezoidal buckle of brushed titanium; it also comes with a spare strap and a tool to replace it. Many divers’ wristwatches include chronographs, but few of them can be operated at great depths underwater due to the risk of water entering the case when the chronograph pushpieces are activated.
